India : Around Delhi

Waar waren we gebleven ? O ja, Rajastan. Ik heb mijn Rajastan-ronde beeindigd in Pushkar. In de grote steden in India word je knettergek, maar in Pushkar niet, ten minste als het wereldberoemde jaarlijkse festival niet aan de gang is.

Na twee maanden in India keerde ik terug naar Delhi, waar het klimaat nu beter is. Ik bezocht de Taj Mahal in Agra omdat mijn foto's van 1996 allemaal een bewolkte lucht hebben, maar deze keer was het niet veel beter door de luchtvervuiling en het stof.. De Taj blijft nochtans het mooiste gebouw ter wereld.

En ik ging naar Rishikesh, een yoga- en meditatiecentrum aan de Ganges, en ook een aangenaam oord om op adem te komen. Twee toffe zussen uit Beieren zorgden voor het gezelschap. Haridwar is niet zo ver af, ik zag er duizenden Hindoes een kaars op een blad te water laten in de Ganges.

Nu ga ik nog met Celine een paar dagen in Delhi spenderen en dan gaat het richting Sri Lanka, waar Pieter een stukje komt meereizen.

Now where were we ? O yeah, Rajastan. I finished my Rajastan tour in Pushkar. The big cities in India make you crazy and Pushkar doesn't, at least if the famous yearly festival is not on.

After two months in India, I returned to Delhi where the climate is better now. I visited Agra because the pictures of the Taj Mahal I took in 1996 all have a cloudy sky. This time it wasn't much better due to pollution and dust, but it's still the prettiest building in the world.

And I went to Rishikesh, a yoga and meditation centre and another good place to chill out. Two cute sisters from Bavaria were my company. In nearby Haridwar, I went to see thousands of Hindus putting a candle in a leaf on the Ganges river.

Now, I will spend a couple of days with Celine in Delhi and then head to Sri Lanka, where my Belgian friend Pieter will join me.
